The Brattleboro Housing Authority

Public Housing
This program enables an individual or family to live in a development owned and managed by the Brattleboro Housing Authority. Rent in all 5 properties is based on 30% of the families adjusted gross income.
 
 
AmeriCorps
The Brattleboro Housing Authority has one full time AmeriCorps member serving as the Community Program Coordinator for Ledgewood Heights and Moore Court. The coordinator provides a safe and supportive space for youth ages 4-17 at each site, and engages participants in enrichment activities, including art, science and new media, as well as encouraging healthy decision-making and service to the community. In addition, the AmeriCorps member organizes field trips to enhance opportunities and increase access to resources. Kids have enjoyed going ice-skating, bowling, snow-tubing, swimming, and especially to the Boston Museum of Science!
 
Melrose Diner
Congregate meals for residents at Melrose Terrace are served Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Melrose Terrace community room. They are a great way for neighbors to get to know each other and enjoy some good food as well. Suggested donation is $3.00, and residents are welcome regardless of ability to make donation.
 
Summer Foods Program
The Summer Foods Program provides lunch and snacks to hundreds of children in Brattleboro during the summer months.
 
Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP)
This program enables an individual or family to rent from a private or non-profit landlord and have their rent subsidized so that generally they will pay no more than 40% of their adjusted income for rent.
 
Shelter Plus Care
Shelter Plus Care is a program designed to provide housing and supportive services on a long term basis for homeless persons with disabilities (primarily those with serious mental illness, chronic problems with alcohol or drugs, or aquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS or related diseases). Homelessness includes living in places not meant for human habitation (e.g. streets) or in emergency shelters. The Brattleboro Housing Authority offers Tenant-based Rental Assistance for this program. Supportive services are funded from sources outside the program and are provided by our partner agencies in the community.  
 
Pathways to Housing
This program is for individuals and families that have significant barriers to housing and are in one of the following catagories; on TANF/Reach Up; youth leaving foster care or women with family leaving prison. In order to qualify for the very limited rental assistance available through this program, the potential participant and all family members must demonstrate a strong commitment to a program of comprehensive services focused on addressing and resolving their barriers to housing. The applicant must be working with a Case Manager in the community. For more information contact the BHA.
 
Mandatory Earned Income Disallowance
The Mandatory Earned IncomeDisallowance  (MEID) Program is for eligible residents of Public Housing or people with disabilities in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Under MEID, a resident may be able to keep money earned as income instead of paying it towards rent increases. MEID can result in significant savings to a household. If you want more information or think you or any member of your household might qualify please discuss MEID with the Public Housing property or Section 8 staffs. We can't give you this financial benefit unless you tell us all your household sources of income- especially whenever they change.
